Synopsis
The film starts in the player room where he gets up to play his favorite game for many hours. At night, he receives a strange proposition through the game consisting in joining the army. Believing in his choice, he decides to accept. But war isn't what he was thinking about...
My mission
The machinima was created by a six members team. We started a preproduction by thinking and drawing the storyboard, by taking the engine in hand and creating an animatics (a preview of the movie with pictures used in the storyboard). In production, we created different environnements (the player room, the hospital room, the dormitory...). To end with, we filmed the scenes, worked on the editing, added some effects and sounds...
Personally, I worked on the storyboard a little, and a lot on modeling stuff for the environnements. I also worked on compositing for some scenes hard to film directly in the game.
Keep it virtual showing
The machinima was shown at Paris during the Atopic festival in 2009. We also tried to participate to the machinima contest for the game festival in Paris on the same year, but it was impossible because of the authors rights on the song we used in the first part.

Task: Keep it Virtual 3D Compositing

The movie was in first person view, so we had to see various actions with the character's hands. To do that, we mixed some camera movements ingame, and I added the hands in 3D compositing, using 3D studio max.

During the production, we had to create some environnements not available in the game. The player's room, the dormitory, the recruiting officer's office and the hospital room were the places to make ourself. I modelised a lot of stuff for each room.
Little models
I started with some models to dress the player's desk. We see the computer screen during the first thirty seconds so it has to be detailed.
I added a coke bottle, some chips and cd-roms, the speakers...
Bigger models
The rooms had to be full of furnitures, shelves etc.
I created bigger models, blinds, posters, tables...

We added them to a map we made with a teammate, using the Call of Duty level editor, a customized version of Q3Radiant. There wasn't any tutorial because the Call of duty 4 Mod tool was released at the same time we started the project.

On the movie preproduction, I worked on some storyboard pictures, after we wrote the storyline together. Finally, my work was used as an example by a teammate to make a colored version for the animatic.
